Are Link Text Ads Really Worth It?

Link text ads might not appear to be very effective simply because they are not blatant, in-your-face display ads that scream “click me!” The sit quietly within the rest of the text, like sly foxes. When your visitor arrives at the site using those keywords, they will see immediately that they’ve probably found what they were looking for.

What they don’t realize, however, is that those underlined pieces of anchor text are actually linking to ads, where you expect them to buy something. Yet, they click because they are probably looking for more information.

This can be extremely beneficial to you for obvious reasons. For one, you have not screamed at your prospects and you are not forcing your ads upon them. People really don’t like pushy salespeople when they go to a retail store. What makes you think they’d be any happier with that approach on a web site?

Are link text ads really worth it?

In short, yes. They can benefit pretty much any marketer.

One common payment method is per click. When someone clicks one of your text ads, you will be charged for that click. This is better in most cases than cost per display, which is another alternative form of advertising. This form is probably best if you are more interested in flooding the market with your brand, to build brand recognition.

For sales, however, you’re probably better off with text link ads. Even better is to incorporate these ads into your overall advertising campaign that includes other ad styles as well.

For now, at least, link text ads are a good choice. Who knows how soon people will clue in to the fact that such anchor text is really just another ad in different format?
